Request for Expressions of Interest: Cariboo Agricultural Research Alliance – Applied Adaptation Research Strategic Plan
Completed in June of 2017, the Cariboo – Regional Research Alliance / Organization Model project resulted in a model for a sustainable research alliance to engage the Cariboo region’s agriculture sector and partners in agricultural research. This project brought key groups together to identify their priorities and potential roles and contributions, as well as compiling and organizing existing Cariboo-focused information and research into a database.
Building on this, the Cariboo – Agricultural Research Alliance Launch & Extension Resources project developed a set of extension resources and built the organizational structure and leadership for the Cariboo Agricultural Research Alliance (CARA). CARA was launched through a workshop to share previous research results and gather additional input, in February 2018.
The development of an applied adaptation research strategic plan will identify and leverage synergies and potential partnerships between research institutions and producer associations, and will help to coordinate and streamline dialogue between producers and researchers. The activities to develop this strategy will also serve to engage new groups within the agricultural sector who may be under serviced due to a lack of industry association connections or various barriers to typical/previous outreach approaches. The strategy will identify immediate, medium-term and long-term research priorities, will support a strong and clear research direction for CARA and will build local capacity and partnerships. The plan will also assist in securing resourcing for local research and to help maintain CARA over a longer period of time.
