The Delta Farmers’ Institute (DFI) is seeking proposals for a contractor to work with local producers, government and other partners to strengthen flooding preparedness and communication for the Delta agriculture sector. The successful proponent will be required to conduct a research scan and review of existing materials, consult with emergency services and others, and facilitate focus groups.
This project also includes:
- gathering information for improving and updating evacuation and livestock relocation plans
- updating the agricultural community on longer term and larger scale flood mitigation planning
- ensuring that farm-level flood preparedness resources are accessible to producers
This project fulfills a priority action of the Delta Adaptation Strategies (3 MB pdf) and will enhance the ability of producers in Delta to adapt to the impacts of climate change. All work will be overseen by a committee that includes representatives from DFI, the BC Agriculture & Food Climate Action Committee (CAI), the City of Delta and the BC Ministry of Agriculture.
The successful contractor will have a minimum of three years of direct experience with extreme events/flooding issues, and at least one team member will have direct experience working with the BC agriculture sector, with a preference for Delta-specific knowledge.
The contract runs from December 2018 to June 2019.

The BC Agriculture & Food Climate Action Initiative (CAI) is seeking proposals for the delivery of wildfire preparedness planning to farmers and ranchers within the province of BC. The successful contractor will be required to plan, coordinate and deliver workshops and compile and develop workshop materials.
The overarching objectives of this project are to:
- Increase agricultural producer awareness of available wildfire preparedness planning resources
- Provide information and a structured planning process for producers to consider decisions and actions for farm/ranch level wildfire preparedness and mitigation
- Strengthen the linkages and relationships between producers and wildfire preparedness and response staff/agencies
This project will build on earlier work undertaken by CAI and the BC Cattleman’s Association (BCCA), including a series of emergency preparedness workshops delivered by BCCA following the wildfire season of 2017 and a guide and workbook developed by CAI.
The successful contractor will have a minimum of three years experience with wildfire issues and at least one team member will have direct experience working with the BC agriculture sector.
The contract runs from November 2018 through March 2019.

Request for Proposals: State of Practices & Technologies Assessment for Managing Extreme Heat Impacts (closes Oct 29, 2018)

The project focus is on practices/technologies for managing operations through extreme heat (in particular both temperature “spikes” and/or more extended period of high temperatures). The project will provide a scan of current practices and technologies in the Fraser Valley, as well as looking further afield at how producers manage extreme heat in other jurisdictions — including those where these conditions are more frequent. There will be some assessment of potential constraints/barriers to adoption in the Fraser Valley — and by the end of the project we hope to have determined which technologies and practices would be most applicable/promising in the Fraser Valley.
