Request for Proposals: Best Practices for On-Farm Management of Runoff, Drainage & Erosion
The BC Grain Producers Association (BCGPA) is seeking proposals for a contractor to work with producers and industry groups to identify and summarize potential on-farm practices for runoff, drainage and erosion management in the Peace River Regional District. The successful proponent will be required to consult with local producers and specialists, conduct a research scan and provide effective knowledge transfer of the findings.
The project includes:
- documenting a baseline of knowledge and practices currently in use
- investigating potentially relevant practices not being used
- developing an understanding of economic and other external factors that impact runoff, erosion and drainage management
- sharing results with producers through a variety of methods and channels
This project fulfills a priority action of the Peace Adaptation Strategies and will enhance the ability of producers in the Peace to adapt to the impacts of climate change. All work will be overseen by a committee that includes representatives from BCGPA, the BC Agriculture & Food Climate Action Initiative (CAI), the BC Ministry of Agriculture and other producer organizations.
The successful contractor will have a minimum of three years direct experience with on-farm management of water-related issues, and at least one team member with have direct experience working with the Peace agriculture sector.
The contract runs from January to August 2019.
