Delta – Strengthening Communication & Preparedness for Flooding Events [dl11]
|Status||in progress: Dec 2018 to Jun 2019|
|Project Lead||Delta Farmers’ Institute|
|Funding Partners||Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, BC Ministry of Agriculture, City of Delta|
|Other Partners||agriculture producers|
This project will identify gaps in flood communication and preparedness between agriculture producers and key agencies in the City of Delta.
Climate change is anticipated to magnify various types of flood risk in Delta. The combined effects of sea level rise, the potential increase in magnitude/frequency of Fraser River peak flows and the increase in frequency and intensity of extreme rainfall events are projected to result in more frequent and extensive flooding.
This project will:
- identify gaps in flood preparedness and communication that can be addressed at the local (Delta) scale
- engage producers, local government and other relevant parties in communication to improve systems and strategies related to flood preparedness
- gather key input for the City of Delta livestock relocation and community evacuation plans
- develop a road map for flood communication and an updated communication process
