Fraser Valley – Farm-Level Flood Mitigation, Preparedness & Recovery Toolkit [fv08]
|Status||in progress: Dec 2018 to Mar 2020|
|Project Lead||BC Agricultural Research & Development Corporation|
|Funding Partners||Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, BC Ministry of Agriculture|
|Other Partners||Agricultural producers, Fraser Valley Regional District|
This project will generate a set of fact sheets, together forming a toolkit, to assist agricultural producers with flood preparedness and resilience.
Climate change is anticipated to increase various types of flood risk across BC, and this toolkit will be applicable to any producer concerned about flood risk and associated impacts.
An earlier CAI project identified the need for improved resources to support farm-level flood mitigation and preparedness in the Fraser Valley. Fact sheets developed through this project will cover key preparedness topics, such as assessing flood risk, reducing flood impacts to farm buildings and planning for livestock protection.
Worksheets will also be developed for individual farm/ranch planning purposes. A completed set of worksheets will form a farm flood readiness plan that a producer can implement to reduce potential flood impacts to their operation.
This project will:
- confirm priority information needs for farm-level flood preparedness, mitigation and recovery
- develop resources for producers to evaluate their flood risk and mitigate/prepare for flooding events
