This project will enable Okanagan water purveyors to distribute information to agricultural water users through an electronic alerts system.
As earlier snow melt and warmer and drier summer conditions increase the potential for drought in the Okanagan, providing producers with timely information about their water supply is vital for ensuring they can adjust water management practices as needed.
Producers who register for water notifications through the electronic alerts system will receive updates throughout the growing season about snowpack and reservoir levels, seasonal drought forecasts, drought levels and any associated agricultural water restrictions.
This project builds on the success of an earlier CAI project that developed communications messages and mechanisms to improve the ability of water purveyors in the Okanagan to inform agricultural water users about their water supply.
This project will:
- supply water purveyors with customized communications materials to help them create and distribute water supply updates to their agricultural users
- provide water management tips and resources for producers through the Okanagan Basin Water Board website
- onboard new purveyors to the Okanagan water supply alerts system
- increase the number of agricultural water users registered for electronic alerts
