Okanagan – Okanagan Invasive Species Online Website [ok08]
|Status||in progress: Nov 2018 to Oct 2020|
|Project Lead||Okanagan and Similkameen Invasive Species Society|
|Funding Partners||Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, BC Ministry of Agriculture, Regional District Okanagan Similkameen|
|Other Partners||Southern Interior Stockmens' Association, BC Cherry Association|
This project will enhance the previously developed Okanagan Invasive Species Online website by increasing the number of species listed on the site and providing specific invasive species management and treatment options for agriculture.
Warmer average temperatures and an increase in the number of Growing Degree Days is resulting in shifting ranges and populations of invasive species and increasing associated management challenges. Early detection and appropriate and effective management strategies enable agricultural producers to manage existing species and prevent the spread of species new to the Okanagan region.
This project builds on the work of an earlier CAI project, which created a new website that combined agriculture-focused information about invasive species into a single, Okanagan-wide resource: the OISO website.
This project will:
- conduct outreach to ensure Okanagan producers are aware of the website’s resources
- improve the website’s content and navigation based on the results of user evaluations
- develop a long-term administrative and funding plan to ensure the website remains responsive to user needs and the content is kept up to date
