Bulkley-Nechako & Fraser-Fort George
From July 2018 through April 2019, we facilitated the development of a Regional Adaptation Strategy in the Bulkley-Nechako & Fraser-Fort George region, which will be published here in upcoming months.
Four climate impact areas have been identified as high priority:
- Increasing wildfire risk
- Increasing variability and shifting crop variability
- Warmer and drier summer conditions
- Changing pest dynamics
The advisory committee includes representatives from: BC Ministry of Agriculture, Bulkley Valley Dairymen’s Association, District C Farmers’ Institute, Eaglet Lake Farmers’ Institute, Nechako Valley, Regional Cattlemen’s Association, Regional District of Bulkely-Nechako, Regional District of Fraser-Fort George, Skeena Regional Cattlemen’s Association, Smithers Farmers’ Institute and University of Northern BC.
Following completion of the strategy, we will begin implementing collaborative projects that will enhance the ability of the local agriculture industry to adapt to these impacts.
Details about each project, including descriptions, final reports and any resources developed during the course of the project, will be posted on this page.
